How to Add a Link to Your Tumblr Bio (Mobile and Desktop, 2026)
October 5, 2026 · 6 min read
Add a clickable link to your Tumblr bio: open Edit appearance, write an HTML link in your blog description and save. Mobile and desktop steps, plus fixes.
Quick answer: Tumblr has no separate website or links field, so your bio link goes in your blog description. On the web, click Settings, choose your blog, click Edit appearance, and add the link to the description as a short HTML link, like <a href="https://lit.bio/yourname">All my links</a>. Save, then check your blog. A link written this way shows as clickable text on your blog in the app, on the dashboard view and on the web. In the app, open your blog and tap the palette icon to reach the same appearance editor. If the app saves your HTML as plain text, make the edit in a browser instead.
Where is the bio on Tumblr?
What most people call a Tumblr bio is the blog description: the short text under your blog name. Tumblr says your title, description and avatar are attached to the blog itself, so changing them in your appearance options updates them on mobile and on the web. The description shows on your blog view in the apps, at tumblr.com/yourblog, in search results and in the popover that appears when someone hovers over your name.
There is a second place it can appear. If you have turned on a custom theme, your blog also lives at yourblog.tumblr.com, and most themes show your description in a sidebar or header. Not every theme does, so check yours after saving.
How to add a link to your Tumblr bio on desktop
- Log in at tumblr.com and click Settings in the menu on the left.
- Select the blog you want to edit from the list on the right. Each blog has its own description.
- Click the Edit appearance button at the top.
- Click into the description area under your blog title and place your cursor where the link should go.
- Type the link as HTML: <a href="https://yourwebsite.com">Your link text</a>. Always include https:// at the start.
- Save, then open your blog and click the link once to confirm it opens the right page.
Short link text such as "Shop", "Commissions" or "All my links" reads better than a long raw address and takes less room.
How to add a link to your Tumblr bio on mobile
- Open the Tumblr app and tap the account button to view your blog.
- Tap the palette icon at the top of the screen to open the appearance editor.
- Tap your description text under the blog title to edit it.
- Add the link using the same HTML format, starting with https://.
- Save, go back to your blog, and tap the link to test it.
Tumblr's app editor changes between versions, and editing HTML on a phone keyboard is fiddly. If you cannot find the description field, or the app shows your code as plain text, open tumblr.com in your phone's browser, log in, and follow the desktop steps. If the palette icon is missing, update the app first.
Is a link in a Tumblr bio clickable?
It depends on how you add it. Tumblr's own help pages recommend an HTML link in the description as the way to link from your blog in the apps, and blogs that do this show the linked words as tappable text. A bare URL pasted as plain text is less dependable: it may or may not turn into a link depending on where it is viewed, so use the HTML format to be safe. Here is how each option behaves as of October 2026.
| Where the link goes | Clickable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Description, written as an HTML link | Yes | Shows on your blog in the app and on the web |
| Description, bare URL as plain text | Not reliable | Convert it to an HTML link |
| Link page on a custom theme | Yes, on yourblog.tumblr.com | Web only; not available to new accounts until vetted |
| Inside a post | Yes | Gets buried as you keep posting |
| Blog title | No | Title text is not linkable |
Can I add more than one link to my Tumblr bio?
Yes. The description accepts several HTML links side by side, and many theme makers list a portfolio, terms, a Discord invite and a Ko-fi page in a single line. Tumblr does not publish a set number. Keep it to a few, though. A description crowded with links is hard to read on a phone, and every time a URL changes you have to edit the HTML again.
Adding links with pages on a custom theme
If you use a custom theme, you can also add link pages that show up as navigation links on yourblog.tumblr.com. Custom themes can only be edited on the web.
- Open Settings, choose your blog, and make sure Enable custom theme is switched on under Custom Theme.
- Click Edit Theme to open the Customizer.
- Click Add a Page and choose the Link layout.
- Enter the destination URL with https:// at the start, give the page a title, and turn on Show a link to this page.
- Click Save.
Tumblr notes that link pages are unavailable for new accounts until the account has been vetted, as a spam measure. These links only appear in your custom theme, not on the in-app blog view, which is why the description link matters more for most people.
Why is my Tumblr bio link not working?
- Missing https://. A link without the prefix can break or point to a page on your own blog. Add it.
- Broken HTML. A missing quote mark or closing </a> can turn the whole line into plain text. Copy the format above exactly.
- Edited in the app. If the app saved your code as text, redo the edit in a web browser.
- Your theme hides the description. Some custom themes do not show it at yourblog.tumblr.com. Check the theme's options or switch themes.
- Hidden blog. If "Hide (blog name) from people without an account" is on, logged-out visitors cannot see your pages.
- Link page not showing. Your theme may not support pages, Show a link to this page may be off, or your account may be too new.
When one link is not enough
A Tumblr description works for two or three links. It gets harder when you also want your shop, commission sheet, Ko-fi, Discord, Instagram and newsletter in one place, and when the same links need to live on TikTok, Bluesky and Discord too. Editing HTML in five profiles every time something changes is where people give up.
A link-in-bio page solves that. You put one HTML link in your Tumblr description that points to a single page listing everything. lit.bio is one option: the free plan gives you a page at lit.bio/yourname with up to 10 links, 50+ social icons, all 12 themes, a free QR code and 7-day click analytics, with no ads. Free pages show a small "Create your own free page" link at the bottom. Pro is $9 a month or $49 once if you want unlimited links and that link removed. If you sell commissions, links to your own shop carry no lit.bio fee.
Set it up once, use it everywhere
Write your Tumblr description, add one HTML link to your page using the steps above, and test it from a logged-out browser. The same URL works in your other bios, so see our guides to adding a link to your Discord bio and adding a link to your Bluesky bio, and tracking which links get clicked.
