How to Add a Link to Your Bluesky Bio (and Make It Clickable)

Does Bluesky have a website field?
Not in the official app. Edit profile has a display name (up to 64 characters), a Description (up to 256 characters), an avatar and a banner, but no Link box like Threads has. Bluesky scans your bio text and makes any web address it recognizes tappable. The underlying AT Protocol profile gained an optional website field in late 2025, but as of 2026 the Bluesky app does not show or edit it, so the bio is the place that works.
How to add a link to your Bluesky bio in the app
- Open the Bluesky app and tap your profile picture in the bottom bar to open your profile.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Tap the Description field. Write a short line about yourself, then add your URL on its own line or after a space.
- Type the address as you want it to appear, for example lit.bio/yourname or https://yoursite.com. Bluesky shows the bio text exactly as you typed it, so a short URL looks cleaner and uses fewer of your 256 characters.
- Tap Save. If the bio is over the limit, the app shows a "Description is too long" warning and will not save until you trim it.
- Go back to your profile and tap the link once to check that it opens the right page.
Labels can shift between versions. The stable path is Profile, then Edit profile, then Description.

Sign in at bsky.app, click Profile in the left menu, click Edit profile, paste your URL into the Description, and click Save. The app updates straight away.
Are links clickable in Bluesky posts?
Yes. Any URL you put in a post becomes a clickable link, and the app shortens long addresses in the post text so they take up fewer of the 300 characters a post allows. When you paste a link into the composer, Bluesky also builds a link card: a preview box with the page title, description and image pulled from the site. How do I pin a post with a link to my Bluesky profile?
A pinned post works like a second, more visual link slot. Publish a post with your link and its card. Then tap the three-dot menu on that post and choose Pin to your profile. It now sits at the top of your profile, above your other posts. You can pin one post at a time, so pinning a new one replaces the old. To remove it, open the same menu and choose Unpin from profile.
Can I use my own domain as my Bluesky handle?
Yes, if you own a domain. This is a Bluesky feature, and it turns a handle like @yourname.bsky.social into @yourname.com, which also proves to people that the account belongs to whoever runs that domain. You need a domain you bought from a registrar and access to its DNS settings or web hosting.
- In Bluesky, go to Settings, then Account, then Handle.
- Tap I have my own domain and enter the domain.
- Choose DNS Panel to add a TXT record (host _atproto, value starting with did=) at your registrar, or No DNS Panel to upload a small text file to your site instead.
- Wait a few minutes, tap Verify DNS Record (or Verify Text File), then tap Update to your domain.
The handle is an identity, not a link button. As of 2026 you still need a URL in your bio for a one-tap path to your site.
Why is my Bluesky bio link not clickable?
- No space before the URL. Bluesky only detects a link that starts at the beginning of a line or after a space. "Shop:lit.bio/you" or an emoji stuck to the address will stay plain text. Add a space or line break.
- Hyphen or unusual ending without https://. Bare domains with a hyphen, like my-site.com, are not picked up, and bare addresses must use a known domain ending. Type the full https:// address.
- Quotes or symbols attached. Bluesky trims a trailing period or comma, but quotation marks and other characters glued to the URL end up inside the link and break it. Leave a space around the address.
- Bio over 256 characters. The app will not save a description that is too long, so your new link never went live. Shorten the text or the URL and save again.
- Logged-out visitors cannot see your profile. If you turned on "Ask apps and sites not to show my account to logged-out users" in your privacy settings, people who are not signed in will not see your bio at all.
- Old app or cached view. Update Bluesky, force close it and reopen, or check your profile at bsky.app.
How do I change the link in my Bluesky bio?
Open your profile, tap Edit profile, replace the URL in the Description, and tap Save. The new link is live on your profile right away. Links inside posts you have already published stay as they were, so if you pinned a post with the old link, write a new one and pin it instead.
