How to Add a Link to Your Telegram Bio (2026 Guide)
October 3, 2026 · 6 min read
Add a link to your Telegram bio in Settings: the bio holds 70 characters, or 140 with Premium. Learn when links are tappable, plus t.me and channel links.
Quick answer: Open Telegram, go to Settings, open your profile for editing, and paste a short URL into the Bio field. The bio holds 70 characters on a free account and 140 with Telegram Premium. Telegram's own Premium announcement lists a longer bio "with a link in it" as a Premium perk, and on free accounts a pasted URL may show as plain text instead of a tappable link. If you need a link people can tap without paying, share your username link (t.me/yourname), add your channel to your profile, or put the URL in a channel description.
How to add a link to your Telegram bio on iPhone
- Open Telegram and tap Settings in the bottom right corner.
- Tap Edit in the top right corner. On newer versions you can also tap My Profile, then Edit.
- Tap the Bio field.
- Type a few words and paste your URL. Keep it short, since 70 characters disappears fast.
- Tap Done, then view your profile to check how it looks.
How to add a link to your Telegram bio on Android
- Open Telegram, tap the menu (three lines) in the top left, then Settings.
- Under Account, tap Bio.
- Type or paste your text and URL. The counter in the corner shows how many characters you have left.
- Tap the checkmark to save.
Adding a Telegram bio link on desktop
In Telegram Desktop or the web app, open the menu, choose Settings, then Edit profile (My Account on some versions). Click Bio, paste your text and URL, and save. Your bio syncs across devices right away.
Is a link in a Telegram bio clickable?
It depends on your account. Since Telegram Premium launched in June 2022, Telegram has listed "a longer bio" that can "include a link" as a Premium feature, and Premium bios show links people can tap. On free accounts, several current guides report that a URL in the bio displays as plain text that visitors have to copy, and behavior has varied between app versions. The only way to be sure is to check your profile from a second account or ask a friend to tap it.
Links are reliably tappable elsewhere: in messages, in channel and group descriptions, and in pinned posts. That is why most creators on free accounts point people to a channel or a username link instead of relying on the bio.
Telegram usernames and t.me links
Your username is the link most people will actually use. Set one in Settings under Username (on iPhone, tap Edit first). It can use a to z, 0 to 9 and underscores, needs at least 5 characters (up to 32), and is not case sensitive. Telegram's FAQ says anyone can then reach you at t.me/username or username.t.me, which opens a chat with you in the app. Telegram also supports phone number links (t.me/+ and your number in international format), but those only work if your privacy settings allow it.
Public channels and groups get the same kind of link, t.me/channelname. Private ones use invite links that start with t.me/+, and revoking an invite link breaks every copy of it you have shared.
Channel and group descriptions, and your channel on your profile
- Personal channel: since an April 2024 update, if you own a channel you can add it to your profile. Telegram shows a preview of its latest post above your bio, and this is free.
- Description: open the channel or group, tap its name, tap Edit, then Description. Descriptions hold about 255 characters, and links in them are tappable.
- Pinned message: pin a post with your links at the top of the channel. It has far more room than any description.
Telegram Premium and your profile
Premium doubles the bio to 140 characters and adds the link in bio. It also makes profile videos animate for everyone, adds a Premium badge and emoji status next to your name, and includes Telegram Business tools such as location and opening hours. The price varies by country; it launched at $4.99 a month in the US. Check the current price in your app before you subscribe just for a link.
Why is my Telegram bio link not working?
- The counter stops you. 70 characters on free accounts. Cut words, or use a shorter URL.
- It shows as plain text. On a free account this can be expected. Use a channel, a pinned post, or your username link, or upgrade to Premium.
- Typo or missing domain. Paste the full address so Telegram recognizes it as a link.
- Username rejected. It is under 5 characters, uses a dash or other symbol, or someone already has it.
- Old view. Restart the app or check your profile from another device.
- Dead invite link. A revoked or expired invite link stops working everywhere you posted it.
Telegram bio vs a lit.bio page
| What you get | Telegram bio | Link-in-bio page (lit.bio) |
|---|---|---|
| Space | 70 characters free, 140 with Premium | A full page |
| Number of links | Realistically one short URL | Up to 10 on Free, unlimited on Pro |
| Tappable | With Premium; free accounts may show plain text | Every link is a button |
| Click analytics | None | 7 days free, 90 days on Pro |
| Look and feel | Photo, name and bio text | 12 themes and 12 fonts, free |
| Works outside Telegram | No | Same URL in every bio, plus a free QR code |
| Cost | Free (Premium is a paid subscription) | Free (Pro $9/mo or $49 once) |
Use your 70 characters on one link that holds the rest
A lit.bio address is short enough to leave room for a line about yourself. Behind it, a free page holds up to 10 links: your Telegram channel (paste its t.me link), your Instagram, your shop, your WhatsApp, your latest video. You get 7 days of click analytics, every theme, no ads, and no fee on links to your own shop or products. Free pages show a small "Create your own free page" link at the bottom. Pro is $9 a month or $49 once for unlimited links, 90 day analytics and that link removed.
The same URL works on Instagram, TikTok and in print through the free QR code. Read how to add a link to WhatsApp and how a link-in-bio QR code works, then put your page in your Telegram bio, channel description and pinned post. Start free
