How to Add a Link to Snapchat: Profile, Stories and Snaps (2026)

September 29, 2026 · 6 min read

Add a link to any Snap or Story with the paperclip tool. A profile Website link needs a Creator or Business account as of 2026. Full steps and fixes inside.

Quick answer: Anyone can add a link to Snapchat by attaching it to a Snap: take a photo or video, tap the paperclip icon on the Preview screen, paste your URL, tap Attach to Snap, then send it to friends or post it to your Story. Viewers swipe up to open it. A permanent, clickable Website link on your profile is different: as of 2026, Snapchat Support lists it as a feature of Creator Accounts and Business Profiles, not standard Public Profiles, and Snapchat+ does not unlock it. Links in chats are tappable, but Spotlight is effectively a no-link zone.

Where do links go on Snapchat?

Snapchat has three places for a link, and they behave very differently:

How to add a link to a Snap or Story with the paperclip

  1. Open Snapchat and take a photo or video, or pick one from Memories.
  2. On the Preview screen, tap the paperclip icon in the toolbar on the right. On some versions it sits behind the extra tools arrow.
  3. Paste a URL you copied, type one in, or search for one.
  4. Wait for the page preview to load, then tap Attach to Snap. The paperclip now shows your link is attached.
  5. Tap Send To and pick friends, My Story · Friends, or My Story · Public.
  6. Open the Snap from your Story and swipe up to test it.

You get one link per Snap. It opens in Snapchat's in-app browser, so make sure the page works well on a phone. A Story link lasts only as long as the Story, which is 24 hours by default, so you have to attach it again every time you post. If you already use this pattern on Instagram, our guide to adding a link to an Instagram Story covers the same idea there.

How to add a website link to your Snapchat profile

According to Snapchat Support, the Website field (along with a public email and a category) comes with Creator Accounts and Business Profiles. Snapchat upgrades accounts to Creator Accounts when they have a Public Profile, post actively to Stories and Spotlight, have grown an audience, and set Story visibility to Everyone. Some adults can also switch a Public Profile to a Professional Account (Creator or Business) under Edit Profile, then Account Type, though Snapchat says that option is not available to everyone yet. Business Profiles are created in Ads Manager and require you to be 18 or older.

If your account qualifies:

  1. Tap your Bitmoji or Story icon at the top of the camera screen to open your Profile.
  2. Tap Public Profile.
  3. Tap the pencil icon or Edit Profile.
  4. Tap Website (older versions labeled it "Website or Linktree").
  5. Paste your full URL, starting with https://, and save.
  6. View your Public Profile and tap the link once to test it.

The profile holds one website. Many 2023 articles say every Public Profile gets a link, because Snap opened it widely that year. Current help pages tie it to Creator and Business accounts, so a missing field is likely that, not a bug.

Do I need Snapchat+ to add a link?

No. Snapchat+ is a paid subscription for extras like custom app icons and chat colors. Its current feature list on Snapchat Support includes nothing about profile links. The paperclip is free for everyone.

Can you put links in Spotlight?

Not in any practical way. Snapchat's Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility, which cover Spotlight, public Stories shown in Discover and Snap Map, list off-platform links (URLs, QR codes and similar) among the things not eligible for recommendation. They also ban redirects to other social media, messaging or cloud storage services. Snap says some off-platform links may be allowed on limited surfaces for vetted creators, but a regular account should treat Spotlight as a no-link zone and send viewers to its profile instead.

Are links in Snapchat chats clickable?

Yes. Paste a URL into a Chat and it turns into a tappable link with a preview. It opens in Snapchat's in-app browser. Snapchat checks links against Google Safe Browsing when they are opened and shows a warning if a site is linked to phishing, malware or spam.

Why is my Snapchat link not working?

How do I change or remove a link on Snapchat?

For your profile, go to Public Profile, then Edit Profile, then Website, and edit or clear the URL. For a Snap you have not sent, tap the paperclip again to swap or remove the link. For a Snap already on your Story, delete that Snap and repost it with the new link. Snapchat's guidelines also say you should not change where a link goes after you have shown it in public content, which is one more reason to point every Snap at a page you control.

Why one link-in-bio URL is the smart thing to attach

On Snapchat, links are either scarce (one Website field, if you have it) or temporary (one per Snap, gone in a day). That makes a single page you control the most useful thing to point at. A lit.bio page can hold your shop, your newsletter, your latest video and your other socials, up to 10 links free, with 50+ social icons, a QR code and no ads. Add it to your Website field if you have one, and attach it with the paperclip whenever a Story needs a link. When something changes, you update the page once instead of reposting.

The same URL works in your TikTok bio, Instagram and X, and the analytics show which links people actually tap (more on that in how to track link-in-bio clicks). Pro is $9 a month or $49 once if you want unlimited links later. Start free and give every Snap a link worth swiping up on.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone add a link to their Snapchat profile?

Not as of 2026. Snapchat Support lists the profile Website field as a feature of Creator Accounts and Business Profiles, not standard Public Profiles. Anyone can still attach a link to a Snap or Story with the paperclip tool.

Do I need Snapchat+ to add a link on Snapchat?

No. Snapchat+ does not include a profile link feature, and the paperclip tool for attaching links to Snaps and Stories is free for everyone.

Can you add links to Snapchat Spotlight?

Not in practice. Snapchat's recommendation guidelines, which cover Spotlight, list off-platform links such as URLs and QR codes as not eligible for recommendation, with limited exceptions for vetted creators.

Are links in Snapchat chats clickable?

Yes. A URL pasted into a Snapchat Chat becomes a tappable link that opens in the in-app browser, and Snapchat warns you if Google Safe Browsing flags the site as harmful.
