Digital Business Card With No Subscription: Your Options (2026)
October 3, 2026 · 6 min read
How to get a digital business card with no subscription: one-time NFC cards, free card app tiers, or a free page with a QR code and vCard. Costs and catches.
Quick answer: You can get a digital business card without a subscription in three ways: buy a one-time NFC card, use the free tier of a card app, or make a free web page with a QR code and a Save contact (vCard) button. A one-time NFC card still links to a profile the vendor hosts, and many vendors keep their best features behind a monthly plan. The free page route costs nothing and needs no app for you or the person you meet. lit.bio, our tool, does this for $0, or $49 once for Pro.
Three ways to skip the monthly bill
| One-time NFC card | Free tier of a card app | Free page, QR and vCard | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | About $15 to $80 for a card or tag | $0 | $0 |
| Ongoing cost | $0 for the basics; extras often monthly | $0; extras monthly or per seat | $0 (lit.bio Pro optional: $9/mo or $49 once) |
| App for you | Usually the vendor's app or dashboard | Usually the vendor's app | No (edit in a browser) |
| App for the other person | No, a tap opens a web page | No, a QR code or link opens a web page | No, a QR code or link opens a web page |
| Tap to share | Yes | Only with their hardware | Only if you write the link to your own NFC tag |
| Typically paid | Lead capture, contact export, custom design, analytics | Lead capture, CRM sync, analytics, branding removal | On lit.bio: unlimited links, longer analytics, branding removal |
Option 1: a one-time NFC card
An NFC card is a plastic, wood or metal card with a small chip. Tap it on a phone and the phone opens a web page. The key detail is that the chip only stores a link. Your details live on a profile page the vendor hosts, so the vendor decides what that profile can do for free, and you usually edit it in the vendor's app.
Here is what "one-time" looked like on vendor sites in October 2026:
- Blinq sells NFC products from $14.99 (a phone sticker) to $79.99 (a custom metal card) and says "No subscription needed. Buy once, use forever." Each accessory comes with two free Blinq profiles. Contact export, a contact scanner and custom card design sit in Premium, at $9.99 a month or $7.33 a month billed annually.
- Tapni sells its card for $29.90 as a one-time payment. Its pricing page also lists Pro features such as advanced analytics, reminders and multiple profiles, without spelling out how long they last, and Business plans cost $59.90 per user per year.
- Mobilo cards were on sale from $5 when we checked and include Pro free for 90 days. After that, Pro is listed at $3 a month. Several Trustpilot reviewers in August and September 2026 report surprise annual renewals and difficulty cancelling.
- V1CE now leads with a single plan, its "Client Capture OS" at £49.99 a month with a card included, in place of the one-time card sales it advertised earlier in 2026.
- Linq NFC products are listed by a third-party comparison at $12.99 to $99 one-time. The same source reports its paid plan is now $29 a seat a month, and the company's homepage now sells messaging software instead of cards.
The pattern: the card itself is a one-time purchase, but what the card points to is a service. If you are buying a card to avoid subscriptions, ask the vendor what stays free forever, and what happens to your profile if the company changes plans or direction. A Popl reviewer on Trustpilot summed up the common surprise back in 2024: "Have to pay additional price per month."
Option 2: the free tier of a card app
Most card apps keep a free plan for one person. As of October 2026:
- HiHello Personal is free with 4 cards, 5 card scans a month and Apple and Google Wallet passes. Professional is $6 a month or $72 a year.
- Blinq Free includes 1 to 2 cards, unlimited sharing, QR sharing and wallet passes.
- Wave Connect has a free card with a lead capture form. Pro is $7 a month.
- Mobilo offers a free wallet card.
These free tiers are real and polished. The trade-off is that lead capture, CRM sync, analytics and branding removal are usually paid, and you manage your card in the vendor's app. The person you meet usually does not need an app: they open a web page or a wallet pass. If you want wallet passes, an email signature or team admin, a card app is the better fit, and we compare them in the best free digital business card apps.
Option 3: a free page, a QR code and a vCard
The simplest card is a web page with your details, a QR code that opens it and a button that saves you to the other person's contacts. Nothing to install and nothing to renew.
On lit.bio this is all on the free plan:
- A page at lit.bio/yourname with your photo, header image and up to 10 links.
- A Save contact button. You fill in your name, title, company, phone, email, website and address, and visitors get a vCard with your photo. No app is needed on either side.
- A free QR code to print on paper cards, badges, flyers or a table sign.
- A location pin, 50+ social icons, all 12 themes and 7-day analytics. No ads.
Pro is $9 a month or $49 once, with no renewal on the one-time option. It adds unlimited links, 90-day analytics, branding removal, a contact form, a booking calendar and email capture. For comparison, HiHello Professional is $72 a year and Blinq Premium about $88 a year billed annually.
Be clear on what lit.bio does not do. It does not sell NFC cards, make Apple Wallet passes, sync to a CRM or offer team plans. Custom domains are not available yet. Free pages show a small "Create your own free page" link at the bottom. If you want tap-to-share anyway, you can write your lit.bio link to any blank NFC tag you buy. You can see the card setup on our digital business card page.
Which one should you choose?
- You love tapping phones at events: buy an NFC card from a vendor whose free profile covers what you need, or put your own link on a blank tag.
- You run a team: a card app's business plan, with admin controls and CRM sync, is worth the per-seat price.
- You are one person who wants no bills: a free page with a QR code and a Save contact button does the job, and doubles as your link in bio on Instagram or TikTok.
Questions to ask before you pay "once"
- Is profile hosting included forever, or for a trial period?
- Which features need a subscription: contact export, analytics, custom design?
- Does anything renew automatically, and how do you cancel?
- Can the card be pointed at a different link later, or only at the vendor's profile?
- Does the other person need an app to save your details?
